Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION – Introduction to Inspecting Dams – A Webinar for Dam Owners

This course is a low-tech summary of problems that can be recognized by dam owners and operators, who are often the first to see problems. It can be a useful tool for engineers and other professionals to distribute to owners and operators. This program will cover the basics of what dam owners and operators need to know about dams and the information needed to perform routine inspections on embankment dams, the most common type of dam, and all other pertinent structures such as spillways and drains. In addition, it classifies dams based on the risk to life and property associated with dam failure, so that dam owners and operators can create effective risk management plans.

It is acknowledged in this course that no two dams are exactly alike, so instead of providing specific instructions on how to manage a dam, common inspection procedures are augmented with general recommendations and specific examples of dam flaws or failures which show which types of flaws are dangerous and must be remedied.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end which is intended to provide 2 hours of professional development.
